The vision for Meitra was to create an outstanding tertiary healthcare facility and provide unparalleled clinical care and patient experience in the beautiful city of Calicut. Right from its inception, Meitra was envisioned to be a healthcare centre of international standards. The infrastructure, medical facilities, and clinical services were benchmarked against the world’s best hospitals.
Meitra’s patient-centric hospital design has resulted in a new kind of hospital concept – ‘The Hospitel’– essentially merging the care of a hospital and the luxury of a hotel, to create a unique patient experience.
There are 220 individual rooms and suites including 52 individual intensive care units. The hospital also has 7 futuristic operation theatres and is supported by cutting edge medical diagnostic equipment.
Meitra delivers advanced patient-care through integrated practice units called Centres of Excellence (COE). Each centre combines medical and surgical departments associated with the management of one disease area or organ system under a single leadership team.
Meitra has five specialized COEs: Heart and Vascular Care, Bone, Joint and Spine Care, Neurosciences, Gastroenterology and Liver Diseases, and Renal Diseases and Urology. These centres are supported by renowned doctors, state-of-the-art medical facilities, and technology-integrated clinical practices. Meitra’s care-path model was developed under the advice of physicians from one of the world’s best hospitals. The COEs ensure that patients receive unparalleled clinical care that clearly sets the hospital apart in the industry.

Sophiya Faizal is the Director and second-generation leader of KEF Holdings, a privately-owned family company, steeped in more than 25 years of innovation and shaped by a mission to be different and make a difference. In addition to heading the corporate strategy function of the company, Sophiya is spearheading a new chapter of industry-agnostic innovation at KEF Holdings, with a new energy, new initiatives, and the same signature disruptive spirit.
As the eldest daughter of founders Faizal and Shabana, she became actively involved in KEF Holdings from an early age. Through regular conversations in the family home, countless weekends spent at KEF’s world-class foundry, Emirates Techno Casting (ETC), and annual summer internships since the age of 13 – her fascination with the family business was ignited.
Having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She then spent a year working with the Kauffman Fellows in the USA. Sophiya went on to earn a master’s degree in International Business Law in 2019.
Sophia officially began her career with KEF Holdings in 2016. The more the ambitious young entrepreneur has become immersed in her role with KEF Holdings, the more she has embraced every aspect of carrying the legacy of the company forward. Sophiya is deeply involved in the strategy for the next phase of KEF Healthcare.
Her interest in the world of health and wellness has also spilled over into her professional life. Regardless of what the future brings for Sophiya in her personal or professional life, she will continue to strive to be different and make a difference in everything she does.

As we reflect on the year 2020, it is filled with the kind of uncertainty and struggle that mankind has never witnessed before. But if you take a moment and look deeper, it also showcased the resilience of the human spirit, and its ability to collaborate and evolve in adversity. We witnessed the fight for hope – for a better tomorrow, for a happier tomorrow. As we introspected, like the rest of the world did, we were determined to come out of it stronger. We were determined to create a health system that draws inspiration from the lessons that we learnt as we paused.
We humbly present to you our renewed spirit. Our new brand represents our aspirations, and our sincere effort to evolve continually. It represents our hopes, and the hopes of those who struggle to have access to quality healthcare. It represents the sacrifices of healthcare professionals, as they bring hope to their patients. It represents our wish for happiness in the world, no matter the uncertainties or struggles that we experience along the way. We are Meitra, still with the same values, but with a renewed sense of Health, Hope and Happiness.
